Bora Bora

Master the art of planning a family vacation that is both fun and affordable. Tips for every budget!

Surprisingly family friendly

Bora Bora is usually associated with honymooners and luxury, but not toddlers and families. However, we brought our 16 month and we all had such a great time. The Westin Bora Bora staff and other guests at the hotel were incredibly friendly and kind to our toddler, food was FREE for him, we felt safe staying with him in an overwater bungalow, and he enjoyed the pool, beach, and exploring around the resort.

We booked one excursion for all 3 of us, the 1/2 day lagoon tour, and my husband and I took turns snorkeling while little guy stayed on the boat. We tried taking him into the water (with a life vest we brought), and he screamed the entire 30 seconds he was in the water. I highly recommend the lagoon tour, which included snorkeling with sharks, stingrays, and fish. Even the boat ride itself was so beautiful. The entire tour was about 4 hours, and little guy fell asleep halfway through. We enjoyed the food, and we were pleasantly surprised that kids 4 and under were given a free drink, meal, and dessert for each meal. And the portions were generous!

The lock on the door was designed so that our toddler was not able to reach it or open the sliding door. (Below) The pools were shallow for our little guy to wade in, and there were always cabanas available for us to hang out.
When we were outside on our deck, we had hands and eyes on our toddler at all times. (Below) He loved exploring the resort, running around, waving at people, and everyone was so kind to him.

How we made it affordable

Final thoughts

Bora Bora was an absolute dream. I never took a single second for granted being here, and am incredibly grateful that I learned about points, which made this trip possible. The Westin Bora Bora staff went above and beyond to take care of us, the vibe was calm and peaceful, the grounds were quiet, and we felt so welcomed. I considered this a once-in-a-lifetime trip, but I would love to go back again and again.
